Top 10 Exercise Tips

No Matter what your training goals are, there are some Principles or Unarguable Truths or Laws of Nature that you need to take into account when planning or executing your training.

Here are Synergy Fitness Camp's Top Ten Exercise Tips:

1. FUN!

Your workout or training must be fun, enjoyable and sustainable, therefore to make it sustainable you need to vary what makes it so much fun. Try training with a friend, personal trainer or in a group or team.

2. Specificity!

Exercise should smell a little like the sport or movement you are trying to get better at. The closer you get to using similiar movements to which you are trying to get better at, the faster you will improve.

3. Overload!

The human body is very adaptable, to lose weight, tone up, build muscles or jump higher you need to use the 'overload principle' to stimulate the body in ways it hasn't been stimulated before. You can do this by reaching further, moving faster, using a heavier load, or doing more repetitions.

4. Threshold!

Everybody has a threshold, the point at which you are fatigued and injuries can occur, or the point at which you cannot reach any further or go any faster. It is important to not go over the threshold, but to keep just under it so you gradually improve limiting the chance of injury, yet maximising improvement.

5. Three Planes of Motion!

Every bone and every muscle in your body moves in 3 planes of motion, forward and back, side to side, and rotation. So remember to use these different motions in your training and in every exercise you perform..

6. Body, Mind, Spirit!

If you look at traditional exercise equipment in gyms you will notice it is not very stimulating for the mind and spirit. You can achieve massive results by stimulating your mind and spirit by making training fun, stimulating and competitive

7. We Are Driven!

What drives you? This is the big question, if you are not really enjoying or driven to attend your sessions you are not going to reach your goals. The key is finding what drives you to achieve your goals. Often at Synergy Fitness Camps our clients are driven by their friends also attending and they do not want to let them down by missing a session or not giving their best.

8. Variety!

Exercise should always contain variety in order to maintain a fun, enjoyable and stimulating training program. You can create variety in your training by using a different environment, such as, training outdoors or in a studio or in the pool. You can also vary each individual exercise by using dumbells, barbells, medicine balls, power bags, and anything else you can think of. Be creative!

9. Safety!

Exercise should always be safe and achievable. In order for it to be safe yet also effective you need to consult a specialist such as a Synergy PT trainer or a 3DPT qualified trainer.

10. Rest and Recovery!

Once you have stimulated the body and had a fantastic workout utilising the above principles it is important to allow the muscles to recover and rebuild to be ready for their next workout. Nutrition is of great importance here, please see the lifestyle and nutrition tips on training tips page.
